Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle is the island's ancient heart and is home to an extraordinary collection of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In areas such as Kalkudah and Passikudah you'll find much calmer water, lighter sand and easier to swim in ocean, which means this stretch of coastline is great for families. You won't find the range of restaurants and hotels here that you will on the southern coast, but the benefits are the summer climate and the calm ocean.

On Sri Lanka's wilder eastern frontier, Gal Oya National Park, Kumana National Park, and Arugam Bay blend untouched natural beauty with wilder beaches.
